I’m not sure an independent learner could figure this one out just by using the prior information from the book. It seems to be more of a challenge question for the rocket scientists at Tech, or a fun trivia question. The big piece of missing information is the height that the rocket must reach to leave the earth’s gravitational pull and take a parabolic trajectory rather than a circular or elliptical orbit trajectory back down to earth.
Back of book answer is 6.96 miles per second
