Compute:

$\int_{-2}^4 (u-1)(u-2) \, du.$

Using the formula for the integral of polynomials, we compute:

$\begin{align*} \int_{-2}^4 (u-1)(u-2) \, du &= \int_{-2}^4 (u^2 - 3u + 2) \, du \\ &= \left. \left( \frac{u^3}{3} - 3 \frac{u^2}{2} + 2u \right) \right|_{-2}^4 \\ &= \left(\frac{64}{3} - 24 + 8\right) - \left(\frac{-8}{3} - 6 - 4\right) \\ &= \frac{16}{3} + \frac{38}{3} \\ &= 18. \end{align*}$
